Freedom, democracy, and global responsibility at the Gasometer
On November 10, 2025, the EUREF Campus Berlin hosted the first Berlin Freedom Conference — a new international forum that brings together decision-makers, activists, and thought leaders to develop answers to the pressing questions of our time: How can freedom and democracy be defended and strengthened worldwide?
The conference was opened by Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, together with Burkhard Kieker (visitBerlin), Antje Schippmann (Axel Springer Freedom Foundation), and representatives of the World Liberty Congress, including Masih Alinejad (women’s rights activist and president of the World Liberty Congress) and Leopoldo López (Venezuelan opposition politician).
Over the course of the day, more than 60 international speakers took the stage, including prominent figures such as Garry Kasparov, Oleksandra Matviichuk (Nobel Peace Prize laureate), Audrey Tang (Taiwan’s first Minister of Digital Affairs), and many more.
German politicians Julia Klöckner, President of the Bundestag, and Education Minister Karin Prien also took part.
The Berlin Freedom Conference is the highlight of Berlin Freedom Week (November 8–15), during which more than 130 events at over 80 locations throughout the city will bring to life the historical and contemporary dimensions of freedom and peacekeeping. The aim is to generate new impetus for the protection of democracy and human rights through dialogue, discussion, and networking.
A big thank you to everyone involved, the organizers and partners who made this day possible – and to the many dedicated helpers!
